His passing this week affected all of us deeply and we wish to honor his good soul, dedication to our kids and his reputation for endless generosity throughout the community of Aspen. When you see a child smiling in one of our camp pictures, please know that Bil had a hand in making that smile happen. Bil’s loving companion Julie brings her lovely daughter Olivia to our camp. With his big heart, Bil took on our cause and by doing so, became dedicated to helping all kids with autism. In his honor and memory, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends. We will miss him terribly but his generous spirit will remain with us always.

While I’m not with our team at Lake Powell, we keep in close touch even though they’re right in the midst of the Grand Canyon. Everyone is having an incredible time….some are trying wakeboarding for the first time, others are honing their skills from having been with us in years past. The weather has been perfect and to tell you the truth, I’m a bit jealous! But we’re thrilled back here in Aspen that our kids are having such a great time, bonding with their counselors and the other kids, and learning new skills that they’ll be able to carry with them into the future. Here are a few pix below from Lake Powell….we look forward to seeing our summer session campers at our camps beginning June 28th in the Aspen/Roaring Fork Valley!

I want to introduce myself. I am the new (well, 5 months now) Executive Director and am thrilled and excited to be here in Aspen. First I have to say I do not have a child with autism. But I care so much about the issue, and what Extreme Sports Camp is doing, that I wanted to come here to help build the organization. I believe so strongly in what Extreme Sports Camp does for youth and young adults with autism that I wanted to spread the word, fund-raise, and bring the extreme sports experience to as many kids with autism as possible across the country.

Extreme Sports Camp is the only overnight camp offering a wide variety of extreme sports exclusively for those all across the autism spectrum. We maintain a 1 on 1 counselor/camper ratio for the highest possible level of safety and to insure our campers have the best experience possible. Throughout the week, some will learn our extreme sports for the first time and others will return to improve their skills. But through our positive, encouraging methods developed by Diane Osaki, each camper will improve in the extreme sports they try during their stay with us. It’s truly amazing to see a child stand up on a wakeboard for the first time, or go tubing, rock climbing, kayaking or any of the other challenging sports we do. Our Travel camp program happens May 30 – June 12. We’ll be on a 70′ houseboat in Lake Powell where we’ll enjoy all kinds of fun stuff on the water. Then we come back to Aspen/Roaring Fork Valley for nine weeks of camp and all the fun activities Extreme Sports Camp has become known for. Our programs are filling up fast so if you’re interested, be sure to reserve you spot now.

I want this blog to be a source of information for you. Of course, I’ll be talking about what we’re doing at the Extreme Sports Camp. I want to tell you stories about some of the kids and their experiences as they enjoy the extreme sports we do. But also keep an eye on this blog for other information about exercise and how the extreme sports we do can help motivate your child to exercise every day. That’s our ultimate goal….to get these kids to exercise every day and feel empowered by their newfound abilities to do the extreme sports so many kids enjoy at our camp.
